MUSIC THERAPY
Unlocking memories through music
Music Therapy reaches powerful roots in our brains and works on different levels. People might not remember their spouse’s name but will remember the words to their favorite song and who sang it. After a music therapy session, participants feel a connection and their mood is dramatically lifted.
While music can be inherently therapeutic, it is not therapy. Music therapy, when performed by a qualified music therapist, offers significant support to seniors grappling with memory issues. The Foundation funds qualified music therapists from the House of Music Therapy who conduct four sessions a week in Assisted Living, the Care Center, and in the Memory Care units. A couples group provides weekly support in Independent Living.
